We exist to support those who no longer find traditional church meets their spiritual needs. We don’t use ‘churchy’ language, and don’t feel the need to always interpret our experience through a Christian lens (although if this is something important to you, you can). If that’s important for you, don’t expect everyone else in the group to feel the need to translate their experiences through that lens, just let them speak from their experience, in the language they want to use.
Those leading the topic sessions will most likely tend towards using neutral language, that doesn’t hold strong religious connotations, to describe the concepts we are talking about. This is so that language doesn’t becoming a stumbling block, or a limiter or a barrier.
We take an expanded view of spirituality. We don’t dismiss people’s experiences or the wide variety of spiritual practices. In the topic sessions we draw on a wide variety of spirituality thought and practice, including Jungian psychology, Christian and ancient religious mystics. There is no hidden agenda, no sales pitch, no evangelism. We exist as a safe place to explore and enable spiritual growth. There is a huge wealth of knowledge available to us and we are only scratching the surface.
We try to honour the heart and consciousness, being present in the moment and holding awareness of your body, over pure thinking. There is nothing wrong with thinking, it’s just that overthinking, identifying with our thoughts and becoming overwrought with worry and anxiety is one of the things that hampers our spiritual growth. So if you want to have an entirely intellectual discussion about the existence of God, or Christian apologetics, or purely biblical teaching - we recommend you find a home-group or church group that supports that specific purpose. Many of us are big book lovers, and can have an intellectual conversation like the next person, but in this group we want to share our heart, our journey and our lives with each other. If you are open to sharing your spiritual journey, sharing some of your heart, your struggles and your revelations and insights with others in a low-key, supportive environment - then this could be the place for you. You are welcome to come along and check it out and see if it’s the kind of group you’ve been looking for.
