Parish Prayer

Parish Prayer

Prayer is a wonderful gift from God, as we are able to talk to our Creator about anything, at all times - and stilling our hearts to listen to what God has to say to us.

And it is a joy to share it with one another. Prayer can be personal, corporate, creative, silent, loud, contemplative, joyful, written, illustrated, sung, messy, and so much more. We have put together a few of our favourite resources and prayer ideas for you to try out - let us know what works (and what doesn't!) and share any ideas of your own.
" Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you"
Luke 11:9

Advent Prayer

Advent is traditionally a season of waiting. It does not always feel this way, because we are often busier than normal getting sorted for end of year activities and Christmas festivities.

The word advent means ‘coming’ or ‘arrival’. The Advent Season is focused on anticipating the arrival of Jesus as Messiah. Our Sunday readings over the last month have had a strong message of the importance of being ready and of living our lives in anticipation of the return of Christ.

Therefore, it seems appropriate to spend some time during advent being prayerful and attentive to the voice of God in our midst. We invite you to use the prayer to the right as a simple way to pray for others and for yourself during advent and beyond. If time is already full, then perhaps taking brief moments during the day when you can focus is an option. Driving the car, walking the dog, during the commercials. These can be random spaces in our day when God is able to remind us of his presence.

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened,
in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you,
the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,
and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Ephesians 1:18-19
