Rev Guy Benton reflects on starting back with House churches for 2024

Kia ora everyone Guy here.

It is with great pleasure I have been asked by our coms team to write an update on our Families House Church.

We had our first week back together again last week, where many of us gathered at the vicarage for fellowship and a time of lenten prayer using a creative prayer resource from the diocese.

We are into our third year together as a group and there are several things we have discovered.
1) We are a beautifully intergenerational group (despite the name) we have many over the age of 65 and many under 10. It is outrageous.

2) We have grown so much we are having to think about our approach to meeting together and how we disciple one another. We currently have 11 households in our group. ranging from families, couples and singles.

3) God is moving amongst us in a real and powerful way! Something that is deep within us all as parents is how we collectively disciple our children and offer a way for their friends to hear the good news. It's with this in mind that several conversations are happening about what it looks like for us to achieve this together.

I would love to highlight the work and hospitality of Rachel and Tony and their family. They have been and will continue to  host our group fortnightly. They are prayerful and creative. They have a huge heart to see the community loved on and drawn in and are seeking to share the gospel authentically. Pray for them, for Summer and I and all our Young families as we pick up the mantel of discipling not only our own kids but other families in our community.

Pray for our kids, may God give them a heart for others, justice, love and peace. And of course, they would be courageous in sharing the Good News of Christ.
